Introduction:
Cloud management and FinOps decide whether a cloud estate stays governable once dozens of accounts, teams and services are running. Without landing zone guardrails, enforced tagging and clear cost ownership, spend rises faster than usage, shared costs cannot be allocated, discounts go unused and incidents cross provider boundaries with no agreed owner. This Core Concept course trains operations, platform and IT finance staff to run the estate day to day: governance policies, cost visibility and allocation, usage and rate optimisation, monitoring, recovery and provider contracts. Participants produce a Cloud Operations and Cost Governance Plan.
Course Objectives:
- Assess a cloud estate against an agreed operating model, account structure and cost ownership baseline
- Apply landing zone guardrails and a tagging policy that make every resource attributable to an owner and cost centre
- Allocate cloud spend to teams and products through showback or chargeback, budgets, forecasts and anomaly alerts
- Select usage and rate optimisation actions, including commitment discounts, backed by unit cost evidence
- Run cloud monitoring, incident handling and backup recovery routines and track them with service management KPIs
- Produce a Cloud Operations and Cost Governance Plan covering policies, cost practice, provider terms and KPIs
