Introduction:
Road safety management is where many organisations have their largest uncontrolled exposure: staff and contractors drive every day, yet crashes are treated as bad luck rather than as a managed risk. Without a road traffic safety policy, measured exposure and controls on journeys, drivers and vehicles, deaths and serious injuries recur. This Core Concept course shows HSE, fleet and transport managers how to apply ISO 39001 and the Safe System approach to their own operations, and each participant builds a Road Traffic Safety Management Plan with objectives, controls and indicators.
Course Objectives:
- Assess the organisation's road traffic safety exposure and set an RTS policy, objectives and targets aligned with ISO 39001
- Apply the Safe System approach to identify which crash and injury outcomes the organisation can control or influence
- Plan journeys and control driver fatigue through journey management procedures and route risk reviews
- Set driver selection, training and telematics monitoring arrangements and vehicle safety specifications and inspections
- Investigate road incidents and control contractor and third-party transport risk through contracts and assurance
- Build a Road Traffic Safety Management Plan with RTS performance factors, KPIs and emergency response arrangements

Day 4: Monitoring, Contractors, Incidents and Emergencies

- Road Incident Investigation: Evidence Collection, Causal Analysis and Corrective Actions
