Programme overview

Introduction:

Many brands open a forum, member group or customer space, then watch it go quiet after launch because nobody owns the purpose, the member journey or the measures of success. Online community management turns that space into a place members return to, help each other and speak for the brand. This Core Concept course gives community and membership teams the strategy canvas, onboarding flows, engagement calendars, advocate programmes and health metrics the role needs. Participants produce a Community Strategy and 90-Day Engagement Plan for a case brand.

Course Objectives:

  • Define the purpose, member value proposition and business goals of a brand, customer or membership community
  • Select an owned platform, social group or hybrid model against member needs, data ownership and cost criteria
  • Design a member journey from first visit to superuser, with onboarding sequences, rituals and recognition tiers
  • Draft community guidelines, escalation rules and a toxic behaviour policy that members can read and moderators can apply
  • Plan ambassador, advocate and user-generated content programmes that disclose every material connection to the brand
  • Track community health indicators and link them to retention, support deflection and revenue outcomes in an ROI case

Target Audience:

  • Staff who build and run brand, customer or product communities on owned platforms and social groups
  • Membership and association teams responsible for member onboarding, renewal and participation
  • Advocacy and ambassador programme staff who recruit, brief and reward brand advocates
  • Marketing and digital engagement staff given ownership of a community space alongside campaign work
  • Customer success and product feedback staff who gather ideas, beta testers and peer answers from members

  • Leave with a Community Strategy and 90-Day Engagement Plan built for a case brand and ready to adapt to your own community
  • Diagnose why a community has gone quiet by reading activity data rather than guessing
  • Defend community budget and headcount with a health dashboard and ROI model senior managers understand
  • Exchange rituals, onboarding flows and advocate rewards with peers from retail, technology, associations and public services

Conclusion:

A community grows when members know why it exists, feel welcome in their first week and see their contribution recognised. The five days move from community types and member value, through strategy, platform choice and guidelines, to member journeys, engagement calendars and recognition, then to advocate programmes, disclosure ethics, toxic behaviour policy and health metrics. The final day turns this into a Community Strategy and 90-Day Engagement Plan for a case brand that participants can adapt for their own members.
